Voice Male magazine stands in solidarity with African Americans, other peoples of color, and white allies around the U.S. and the world as we confront the unconscionable and needless murder of George Floyd.
His brutal, racist killing on May 25 is just the latest manifestation of white supremacy culture and rampant anti-blackness, the 401 year-old original sin of the United States. We demand accountability and justice. The arrest of the police officer who used his knee as a murder weapon is a small step toward that accountability. It was absolutely essential that the other three officers also were charged. As a country, we will never be able to breathe until justice is done. That justice will be sought not just in the courthouse but in the streets.
We stand with George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and all those who have died as a result of our country’s racist history. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, it is time to confront the pandemic of racism. While we will continue to advance our mission of dismantling patriarchy and building a gender just society, we recognize that we cannot achieve gender equality without achieving racial equality, economic equality, health equality, and environmental equality.
In this moment, we stand with all who are committed to undoing racism. The United States will never be united until we do.
